Casa de la Premsa, Universal Fair Grounds, Barcelona

The concept for the Centre Internacional de la Cultura del Menjar, was presented to the Barcelona public with the support of His Excellency, Joan Clos, Mayor of Barcelona on 26 February, 2003.

The Casa de la Premsa was built in 1929 to host and accommodate the press core attending the Barcelona Universal Fair. The House of Media is surrounded by new projects like the Caixaforum and by surviving historic buildings of the fair: the Mies Van der Rohe Pavilion, the National Museum of Catalonia and the Museums of Archeology and Ethnology.

For this significant location, the Food Culture Museum is proposing to develop the emblematic building into a showcase of world food culture. Through special displays, changing exhibitions and educational programs, the Casa de la Premsa will become a meeting point for visitors and residents. Sited at the crossroads of modern Barcelona history and contemporary tourism, the building will be programmed throughout the year.

A Barcelona-based Team is developing plans for the renovation of the building. An initial photographic survey of the building has been conducted and a maquette has been produced. With the public presentation, the project begins a development and fundraising phase. For information contact our team.
